Which car is better a 1991 Honda Civic Si Hatchback or a 1992-1995 Honda Civic Hatchback ?

Im 17yrs old in new jersey and im looking to purchase either or however i desire an car great for everyday use and racing. Light and upgradable. I've heard the Si is more upgradable motor wise for the reason that no welding has to be completed to install motors, what motors are they. The 92-95 hatchback is all great for the reason that a lot parts are made for it. i need assist and what are great mods to add to every car and what's the the majority of hp i could get out of every car and the way. I just purchased a 1991 Honda Civic hatchback with 136k on it, can I drive it to colorado?

I had it checked out by the mechanic, said to be in good shape, sounds great, body and interior are in great condition. Engine too supposedly, replaced the axles, tuned up, oil changed etc. Driving around Chicago with zero difficulties. HOWEVER as I was loaded up prepared to depart yesterday smoke began pouring out the hood, the heat shot up...seems similar to a coolant hose busted...a mile from my house. GOt towed to the mechanic, who is replacing the hoses. This is my first OLD auto. (40mpg!) Shall I even now make the drive? Is it foolish to expect a 16 year of age car to make it across the country? I really adore the auto, and desire to do this, however do not desire to be stuck with a lump of metal in the middle of nebraska.
