Can you replace the automatic transmission in a 2000 Honda Accord 2.3 with a autotranny from a 1997 Accord? I recently purchased a 2000 Accord 2.3 . The transmission is slipping and needs to be replaced. I'd like to utilize the transmission from the 1997 Accord I've. I know they bolt right up however I hear that they do not work. Has anybody ever done this? It is only a slight 1/4 to 1/2 second pause or drop in power as is shifts. It does not seem to slip at higher speeds when under full power. Can it be driven still or ought to it be repaired immediately? It runs good and for the cash I am truly happy. I only have 2 issues.1, The shift locks in Park. There's a 'shift lock release' slot next to the shift and if i hold my spare ignition key in it I'm able to shift. Once I am out of park it's fine. This only began happening yesterday, How can I unlock it with no needing to carry around a second ignition key?2, My second question is, how can i go about re-aligning the steering wheel? when the wheels are straight the steering wheel is at an angle (about 25-30 degrees).Thank you for the useful answers... it's all sort of academic immediately though... last night the front axle broke!Read more on this topic Why won't my 1994 Honda Accord LX (5th generation) automatic transmission start up?Hello, one of the cars I use, Honda Accord LX 5th gen 4cyl automatic (140k miles) will not start for a number of reason. My buddy was driving it home from a dentist appointment and a created a stop at Kohl's. After she came out she tried to begin the auto, however could not get it to work. Here is the details:We take the key and place it in the ignition.The key will not turn, even with pumping of the brakes.Shift lock release works if that matters at all.Please assist and I'm able to provide any extra info that's needed.
