My air conditioning just went out in my Civic, help!?I've a 2000 Honda Civic, and the air conditioning only stopped working on the way home. It was working perfectly, then suddenly it began blowing hot air. Not only "less cold" air, I mean HOT air (it was most likely 95 degrees outside). The engine was not overheated. Honda wants to charge $90 for a diagnostics test, and if it's going to cost more than several hundred dollars to fix we most likely will not fix it.Has anybody had a similar experience and can estimate what is wrong and what it would cost? I've noticed that it makes a strange noise each immediately and then, however most certainly when I take it to the mechanic to hear the noise it never sounds. I truly do not understand the way to describe the noise...maybe..a type of whistle, however it's short and not high noise...nearly similar to a low short sounded quick whistle. Yeah, call me crazy, however my buddies have heard it, too. It maily happens during the time I'm at a standstill or right when I press on the on the gas to go, which made me think it was maybe my brakes, however I truly do not know. It most likely has been going on for a year or 2, however it seems to just come in the spring and summer, which made me think it was the air conditioner. Any input would be useful. I only desire to ensure it is not anything serious. Like I said, I took it to the mechanic however the noise never came. I assume that my air conditioner was out of Freon or whatever they use. Does anybody know the price of the repair or recharge?
