check engine light?my check engine light came on yesterday on my '03 Honda CRV. I tightened the gas tank lid (as it can cause the light to come on in this model) however, that was not the dilemma. everything seems to run fine and i am taking it to the shop monday. what are a number of possible things that could cause this? my '96 accord never had and difficulties, so why would my '03 CRV be doing this??Read more on this topic 2000 Odyssey: Check Engine light, p0420 code, catalytic converter problemCheck engine light came on. Went to car Zone car parts store since all their stores have an OBD II reader behind the counter. If asked they'll, FREE OF CHARGE, get the code out of the auto's pc (the OBD socket is only to right of steering wheel under dash on my 2000 odyssey). My on-board diagnostics code was a P0420 ("catalytic converter bank 1 not efficient enough... blah, blah, blah"). The car Zone individuals can CLEAR the code if asked (and the Check Engine light goes off). They'll warn you that "it is certain to come back" if the fault is hard. It CAN NOT be a hard fault: it can not be the cat converter, it can not be either oxygen sensor, it could be an air leak, it could be bad batch of gasoline, etc. etc.--- all of which can produce a p0420 code (high hydrocarbons are detected MAYBE if all the sensors are right). I then immediately did 2 things (based on advice from somebody on the net): 1) put triple the amount of usual GASOLINE CONDITIONER into my nearly empty gas tank, 2) went to the nearest SUNOCO station and filled up with Ultra 93 gasoline. Have driven a number of 120 miles so far and no check engine light. This suggests (doesn't prove) that maybe it was the gasoline I was using recently --- Going back to Shell gas I guess. Anyway, in the meantime I passed my state inspection.Read more on this topic check engine light comes on when hitting brakes???i've a 91' honda accord & everytime i hit the brakes when slowing down from a rapid rate of speed, my check engine light pops on. it has been doing this for nearly a year i've a new battery & it still is on. i've put on new brakes on the front & it still is on. ThxRead more on this topic Check engine light with new ECU?I had an electrical problem in my 02 Civic EX... i finished up needing to replace the ECU (got one from a junk yard... from another 02 EX)... I needed to have it re-flashed at the dealership to work with my security codes. Immediately my check engine light is on and it's reporting an O2 sensor failure... i've replaced the O2 sensor and cleared the code, however it came back on and is reporting no different code again. I checks the wires running from the O2 sensor to the ECU and it theres no signal... do you believe it could be the ECU itself, or maybe only the program flash was not correct (e.g. for a non-vTec motor or LX or DX model)Read more on this topic
